⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Venus Jones is a poetic powerhouse. She Rose is a must have!
By Clarissa L. Bolding on May 19, 2006
To watch Venus perform is to watch a star shining up close and personal, twinkling and gleaming, stamping an unforgettable light in a dark sky. She is a Poetic Soldier who is talented beyond description. Her pieces enlighten and inspire the mind and the life experiences she shares & blesses the world with in this book is truly needed today. It is an honor to know her and call her friend and to have worked with her as well.

To read She Rose is to take a journey along a path lined with passionate, provoking images and emotions, and I definitely recommend this book for lovers of both spoken & written word. Venus has an inner rythym that flows smoothly, such as in “Swing Jazz Cats”, and “Dixie Land”, two of my personal favorites. You can actually hear the music playing, smell the cigars and feel the smoky atomosphere of the venues being described. “Fly” is another incredible piece that is truly inspirational. Her word play is subtle yet at the same time its slaps the reader vividly. The title in itself illustrates this gift. She Rose is also lined with wonderful bits of wisdown from profilic masters of our time.

Venus, my Sister in poetry, I am so proud of you. Keep shining. This is only the beginning. CLB.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ AN AUTHOR WHO CAN EMBRACE DREAM DEVELOPERS AND DREAM DESTOYERS
By Amazon Customer on May 30, 2016
I just purchased this book after watching Venus perform at Laney College in Oakland. I was unable to put the book down until I finished. Venus has a way not only to invoke thought but keep her reader engaged. You will hear her authentic voice as you turn the pages. I had no idea the book was written 10 years ago because the message is so profound and relevant today. U GO GURL

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Revolutionary Project
By Ronald Porter on June 19, 2006
A fragrant rose amongst many thorns, She Rose: On a Journey from Girl to Goddess is entrenched in the tradition. Often, many ask why poets and spoken word artists, who come to us from the margin, must make waves in the societal ocean. Venus Jones clearly answers, “I want…women and the underrepresented everywhere to rise to their fullest potential so they may promise every nation a brighter and more beautiful future.” She comes carrying the voices and visions of poets and writers such as Langston Hughes and Audre Lorde. Her words are not the distant and static monologues produced by so many other poets who lack a connection to what is humane. For Venus, poetry is not a luxury. It is a consciousness raising act, a call to be present and heard in a world that seeks to envelop us in the silencing clouds of materialism, sexual violence, racism, homophobia, poverty, war, environmental destruction and blind patriotism. There are indeed depths of wisdom in her metaphor and rhyme. For a new generation of poetic soldiers, Venus Jones and She Rose comes to us right on time.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wow… everyone should buy this book!
By Matthew Blake on June 3, 2006
I’ve purchased poetry books before, but I can honestly say I’ve never gotten so much for my money. “She Rose” is packed full of material: beautiful poetry, inspirational prose, and all-around wonderful writing. Read it all in one sitting or piece by piece, it definitely makes an indelible impression. As a male fan of contemporary poetry, I absolutely love it, but I imagine that women would enjoy it even more. So if you’re a woman, do yourself a big favor and pick this up. If you’re a man shopping for that special lady in your life, here’s a chance to be original. Don’t buy her roses. Buy her “She Rose”. (She’ll like it more, and it’ll last longer.)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ She Rose
By James Dunson on October 5, 2013
Venus is a Morning Star. Out of the darkness of patriarchy, white-supremacy, and the material wealth and spiritual death that surround us in this land of concrete, she rose like a flower from the cracks. She rose, reminding us that life can survive constantly creating, never for a second forgetting that living means more than just being alive. Only read this book if you’re ready to believe in Goddesses.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Still an inspiration

This book is filled with wonderful and inspiring poems that fill the heart and soothe the soul. I think it is especially rewarding for women of all ages, but anyone who enjoys good poetry will love this book. Ms. Jones has put her great talents to such a fine endeavor – wish I could write with the depth of character that she so eloquently portrays.
